An eerie, yet heartfelt card for the Dia de Los Muertos ofrenda...'My Hero Forever'

The Craftique Redux shop at Etsy offers ornaments and decorations for the Dia de Los Muertos ofrenda, and also printable altars and journal cards to add your own photos!  Above is a rosette with shimmering ribbons.

One printed memory journal themed for Dia de Los Muertos; perhaps to put upon the ofrenda altar measures approximately 5" x 7". The front cover features a saluting sugar skull Army soldier and the words 'Mi heroe para siempre' - (translation: 'my hero forever') -- note that the wording on this journal is in Spanish, not English.

The back of the journal is also printed with the words 'Recuerdame como valiente y verdadero' - (translation: remember me as brave and true), with a soaring eagle image. Inside the left cover of the journal is a large side tuck pocket, which contains a printed sheet of paper with the words 'escribeme por favor' Translation: 'please write to me'. There is also a smaller square pocket on the front of this larger tuck pocket. On the right-hand side of the journal is a 'waterfall' arrangement of cards with the word ''Recuerdos' (memories) for you to adhere your photos onto the front and write your memories onto the back side of the cards. There is a printed paper band with a ribbon-tie closure for the journal. The journal pockets have printed ephemera included. This unique journal could also double as a greeting card and comes with an A7 envelope.

There are two different printable ofrendas that are fun and colorful to place upon a shelf or desk; come check them out at Craftique Redux of Etsy.

Such a paring!

Some folks just have a knack for pairing things together; my friend Barbara paired my colorful skeleton ATC card with a bright yellow vase, and it looks wonderful!  See it at Etsy:

Faux Vintage Button Cards for Junk Journals Collage Scrapbooks and More

I love to create faux vintage button cards.  It's such fun to create a fictional button brand and select the image that showcases that brand!  And it's a great way to use up that massive vintage plastic button stash I have.  The cards make a great pocket-stuffer for junk journals, smash books, scrapbooking, card making, or even collages.  Here are a few that I have in my Craftique Redux shop at Etsy:

Junk Journals

Junk Journals are something that either touches your artful soul, or you just think they are, well, junky.  In addition to the basic junk journal which is created with found materials and recycled / upcycled papers, etc., there is the Vintage Junk Journal.  Now here is where some may jump off the junk journal train, because this type of journal includes gorgeous bits of real vintage ephemera such as genuine old photos, papers, and fabrics.  These are carefully curated for use in the journal and they command a higher price because of the artistry and material value.

But if you simply love the idea of upcycling and recycling found items and papers you will be more than happy with putting down your thoughts, notes, drawings, and prayers into a basic junk journal that was created from a rescued book cover, recycled book pages and papers, and bits of whimsical ephemera.  I know my ancestors would approve of 'using all parts of the buffalo'!  And if you are the do-it-yourself type, there are even digital journal files you can purchase to print out, cut and assemble.

I love making these journals, but do offer pre-made covers to get you started; all you have to do is add your signatures (oh, and if you're new to junk journals, you've got to learn the lingo.  A signature is a folio of pages....)
